Where Do Leaks Develop in Your Car’s Exhaust System?

Every driver is familiar with the exhaust muffler corrosion issue that develops into a noise issue that leads to expensive traffic violations. However, most drivers are not aware of the makeup of their exhaust system and where leaks can develop.

Your exhaust system is not just a pipe that carries exhaust out the rear of the vehicle. The exhaust system is made up of a series of parts interconnected by flanges, gaskets, and seals. The exhaust manifold directs the gas to the catalytic converter where emissions are cleansed. After the catalytic converter, the gases pass through the resonator, then along a pipe to the muffler, and finally, out the tailpipe. Each part connects with the next by flanges and gaskets to seal the exhaust from leakage.

In our service center here at Demontrond Volvo Cars in Houston, we test each connection to make sure there are no leaks.
